Synopsis "The method" tells the story of a recruitment process that occurs in a multinational company, in which seven candidates to opt for a top executive post. The test is conducted in a building company which is located on Paseo de la Castellana in Madrid, the same scenario, in which at the same time, is occurring anti-globalization demonstration against the International Monetary Fund, with security forces riot in front.
The seven candidates (two women and five men) are in a cold, claustrophobic room, waiting to be interviewed for this must complete a form in which they agree to your assessment to be made through " Gronholm Method. " They know what it is that method. His first surprise is that in that room there is no interviewer or psychologist, or any person who is going to evaluate.
In this climate of uncertainty, the level of mistrust increases when a candidate mentions a recruitment method used in the United States, which consists of group dynamics in which the candidates by how they interact demonstrate their attitudes and skills. Applicants for the post deduce that this must be the "Gronholm Method." And you begin to suspect they are monitored by cameras and microphones.
Through computers in the room, they get the first test to be performed. They are told that one of them is not a candidate, but the psychologist is evaluating them. The test is to find the mole infiltrated them. From there the competitiveness and paranoia are the general trend of climate that is generated in that room. The film will
occurs through various tests that applicants must take to prove they are the best for the post, each of which one of them will be eliminated. And in that conflict are generated dynamically, making alliances or revealing secrets, which will be getting the worst of each.
Characters
Carlos is a posh, good family. He studied at Cambridge. His manners are exemplary at all times. Represents the winner and no scruples. Had an affair three years ago with Nieves, another of the candidates, but since then not seen again. Nieves
is a mysterious woman and a little cloudy. It seems that stomp and goes for broke. However, it has a problem, is aware that time is passing and meteoric career in this leading, you're missing things you'd like to do in life, such as a child. July
character is seemingly more focused and calm. However, the honesty demonstrated in an incident from his past, he played a trick in this selection process. Enrique
represents an insecure man. Is the candidate who tells the others what he knows about the recruitment method based on group dynamics. Aims to be "the ready." At the end proves to be a "Noob" and is "well who does not know how to handle the trap that you are prepared. Unfortunately and much to my regret, is the character that I identify more. Fernando
represents the "Iberian macho." Is apparently more aggressive character. I say apparently because the covert aggression and hostility felt cold all the characters. Does not save "Shapes" like everyone else and displayed impulsive in their actions and what he says. Ana
is a mature woman cuarentaitantos intended to give the image of being a successful professional woman who steps firm, but nevertheless is very vulnerable and insecure. Ricardo
initially is the most critical of the screening test. Eventually be revealed as one of the organizers of the whole "shebang".
Secretary is an attractive and seductive woman who seems to have fun at work. With Richard, it is the other person organizing this process. Is quite insensitive and even cruel sometimes see candidates to manipulate the selection process take its course.
I chose this movie to see with my students in the class of "ethics." Had already seen it before and I thought it represented a fairly crude and realistic in what is becoming our capitalist society. Success, success, money ... are the values \u200b\u200bthat prevail increasingly harder.
The film focuses primarily on the selection process a job of chief executive. Candidates are people "winners" on paper, but I think they really are a victim of the system.
is impressive see what they can do to "win" to achieve its objective. Humiliate, cheat, lie. Anything goes in this fight without quarter. It is the struggle for survival.
And as the process goes candidates are losing their soul, they are dehumanized. And that is why from my point of view, the final winner is actually the most lost.
But while all this happens, another thing that impresses me is to see the images of these aspiring executive locked in their glass case, looking out the window at the destruction taking place in the manifestation of the street. Looking insensitive, as if they do not affect what happens in the world. And
all of them represent two poles of our society. The protesters represent a revolt against the system, the nonconformity, the action. The candidates in turn represent the submission to the system, wealthy and passivity.
What strikes me about the movie is to see human misery. To see all that we can do to reach a final goal and not face our existential vacuum.
The film ends with a mirror image of destruction and desolation. This is the future that awaits us if we continue down this path.
