"if you keep the big fish in a small tank is too small ... With more space, the fish can double, triple ... or quadruple ... its size. "
Ten years later, after becoming the most popular young Ashton (South Carolina) ... realize that ... like the big fish to grow, must leave home and explore the world ... And so begins a legendary journey and incredible.
Many years and countless adventures later, E. Bloom (Ewan McGregor) is well known as a storyteller about his colorful life of ordinary little girl, when his wanderlust takes him all over the world ... and back again ...
His mythic exploits range from the charming the surreal, interweaving epic sagas about giants and werewolves, Korean lounge singers ... ... a witch with a glass eye that can see the future ... and of course, a big fish that refuses to be caught.
Bloom's fabulous love stories is anyone except his son Will (Billy Crudup), who also left home, but in this case to escape the long shadow of his father. Sick ... When Edward and his wife, Sandra (Jessica Lange) tries to reconcile them, Will embarks on his own personal journey to separate myth from reality in the life of his father and accept the great successes and great failures of this .

Other characters, is Will's wife Josephine (Marion Cotillard), the poet become bank robber and an agent of Wall Street Norther Winslow (Steve Buscemi), Amos Calloway (Danny DeVito), the owner and master of the ring of a circus.

I love every square inch of it. But I can feel her limits hanging over me. The life of a man can only grow to a certain point in a place like this. "
